CBS Records (CBS) was launched in 1962 to market Columbia recordings outside North America, where the Columbia name was controlled by others. CBS Records Group was sold to Sony in 1988 and it was renamed Sony Music Entertainment in 1991, as Sony had a short term license on the CBS name.
