I Want a Monster to Be My Friend is a song performed by Betty Lou and three monsters including Harvey, Maurice and the original version of Joseph Scarbrough's monster character Steve.
Music Video[]
We see Betty on the black background with a grey gradient on the bottom left thinking about what living thing she wants as her friends. After she asks "Won't you help me please", we zoom out and pan from the closeup view to reveal the monsters playing the instruments and the background fades to pink with moving disco lights fading in. While Betty sings with the microphone, Harvey plays the saxophone, Maurice plays the piano and Steve D' Monster plays the tambourine. We zoom in at Steve D' Monster while the monsters are humming and return to the original view. At a certain point, we pan up from her and zoom into the disco ball then it fades back to the position with Steve shown on the right from Maurice then the song wraps up.
FX[]
The background is first black and then changes to pink and the lights appear on the background. The glinting effects come from various materials like the disco ball.

Based on the previous version of the music video, the En Vogue crew sings their version featuring "Cookie Monster", "Zoe", "Frazzle" and the Two Headed Monster.
Music Vidoe[]
The video features Cindy Herron singing the song in a R&B fashion with Maxine and Terry singing backup. After saying, "Won't you help me, please?" Zoe appears dressed in a collar and dances. The song continues to three montages of the En Vogue members going on dream dates with different monsters. Maxine and Cookie Monster are eating at a fancy restaurant, Frazzle and Terry are cuddling and kissing in front of a fish tank, and Cindy and the Two-Headed Monster are at a drive-in movie. The montages sometimes cut between the date sequences and En Vogue singing to their monster costars.
Scare Factor[]
Low to minimal, the heart graphics that are rendered 60fps may surprise some people.
