Monster in the Mirror features Grover singing the song while seeing himself in reflective materials in the bedroom and the street but was never afraid of it. It was written by Christopher Cerf and Norman Stiles and produced by Jim Blashfield and the music was arranged by Paul Jacobs. The song was performed by Frank Oz as Grover, with backup vocals by David Rudman and Richard Hunt. Variants[]In 1991, the song was re-edited with cameo appearances by Ray Charles, Robin Williams, Jeff Goldblum, Geena Davis, Julia Roberts, Bo Diddley, Whoopi Goldberg, Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert, Candice Bergen, Robert MacNeil, Chubby Checker, Kadeem Hardison, Tyne Daly, Lou Diamond Phillips, Jeff "The Frugal Gourmet" Smith, Malcolm Jamal-Warner, Maria Conchita Alonso, Bo Jackson, Charlayne Hunter-Gault, Kid 'n Play, Blair Underwood and The Simpsons. Additional sound effects were also added to the music video. On Play With Me Sesame episodes containing this music, the video was edited with the audio at the wubba wubba part re-arranged and the street scene from the long version of the variant was removed. The blue circles with Grover in it also popup during the music video.
