One is a 1975 song from A Chrous Line performed by a chorus from the glittery gold numbers lead by the first number.

Nickname(s)[]

"One Singular Sensation", "Chorus Numbers", "One is the One", "Gold Numbers"

Music Video[]

On a concert background, all numbers but one stand at the wall being reviewed by the director to ensure all numbers are in the correct order panning from right to left with the spot moving to the missing number where 1 peaks from the curtain when arriving between 3 and 4 and stands there after one of the numbers finds out it comes who's then asked to next to 2, then it is then re-checked before accepting the order, then the number 1 gradually returns with a silver hat singing things about one with the others coming in from the right. We then see closeups of the 1 before the rest move oddly up and down which then the 1 dances it's way back by the spot where it was asked to lineup at and while dancing, it pans again before they cheer.

FX/SFX[]

  • The numerical puppets were designed with glitter making glint reflected by lightening.

Variants[]

  • A short version with the introduction and ending edited can be found on 123 Count with Me. A clip of it appears on the trailer of the aforementioned home video release from Sony Wonder on most VHS releases and early DVDs like The Great Numbers Game which was taken from a VHS source.

Music/Sounds Variant(s)[]

  • There were two soundtrack variations for the non-German dubs:
(TV Episodes): At the start, Jerry Nelson directs how numbers should be arranged, then banjo plays with trombones through the song and violin near the end. Also, 1 was performed by Fran Brill.
(123 Count with Me): Same as the previous variant, but the song was re-recorded with Ivy Austin's lines replacing the one's singing lines, though retaining the one's original speaking lines by Fran Brill as they weren't dubbed. The "one" noise near the end lasts shorter and the xylophone and horns plays through the song.

Music/Sounds Trivia[]

  • Even though later uses of the song would have Fran's lines dubbed, his voices prior to the song would be considered 1's general voicing while Ivy's would be it's singing voice.

Availability[]

  • Seen on several episodes of Sesame Street from the era.
  • The 2nd music variant is extremely rare and has been used on 123 Count with Me.

Trivia[]

  • The performers for this song included Fran Brill, Ivy Austin, Jerry Nelson, and Richard Hunt.
